Spiral Flamenco is a flamenco/jazz/fusion group. As well as traditional flamenco, we play gypsy and middle-eastern influenced music. Members of the ensemble include:
Jim Findlay: a key player in many local musical groups and combos, Jim plays both the guitar and the oud. His first passion was jazz, but over the past few years, he’s come to love flamenco.
Michael Williams: a long time bassist on and off the road, Michael enjoys exploring new musical frontiers with creative musicians, from walking a jazz bass with the Jim Findlay Trio, to supporting the lively rhythms of Spiral Flamenco.
Ehab Sleiman: Ehab first became attracted to flamenco after hearing the music of Paco Peña, the world-renowned flamenco guitarist. A gifted musician, Ehab also plays the oud and the eleven string middle-eastern lute.
Marni Benavides: a multi-disciplinary performance artist, Marni danced flamenco as a child and started singing it in 2008. She’s studied with many local and international flamencos and performs regularly.
Susan MacGregor: Susan has studied flamenco dance and song for nearly two decades. Over the last few years, she has performed as a singer, feeling a deep resonance with the form.
